After it all collapsed, life I mean, I sat down in the bedsit on the 3rd of April this year and stared at the blank screen. I was broke, at the start of the scary journey into financial oblivion, and emotionally hurting worse than I’d ever believed possible. I needed to escape, to run. And I did.

“My way out of misery and poverty, though it’s a big game of pitch and toss without the benefits of a heap of winnings Kipling suggests obtaining first”

In a week I was reading through the first draft of Forever Completely, a story about witches, zombies and the end of the world. And love. Always love. It was 30,000 words long and as rough as sandpaper loo roll but there was something in it, a spark. So I ran with it.

Come May the first draft was ready and the beta reads came back with positives. So I tweaked and polished and then the spark became magic. Forever Completely took the destruction of my life and turned it into a door. Not only to the other stories which I’ll be writing for the next few years, but a portal to home.

That’s why I created Cynefin Road, a small, independent publisher. My way out of misery and poverty, though it’s a big game of pitch and toss without the benefits of a heap of winnings Kipling suggests obtaining first. But here we are. Out of nothing. And I’m taking others with me on this journey.

My book, Forever Completely, is out on the 16th of September (full moon being the best time for magic, of course). It’s available worldwide in all electronic formats including Kindle, IBooks, Nook, Kobo, Booktopia and so on, but it’s also available in a beautiful hardcover which can be sniffed and poured over, page by page.

On top of this, the fantastic Star Princess and the Kitchen Witch is out in paperback the same day. A wonderful children’s book by Stephanie Shields, illustrated by my very own babies.

Ten percent of the proceeds from FC, as I call it, will be going to charity (split between Shelter and Save The Children) because my journey has been to – and still is traversing – a place where support means everything.

I hope you like a good yarn or two and can find a little room for books from quirkier sources. Stories brought to you by little more than hope in the face of the bleak and a dream of better riding on a wing and a spell.

Happy reading and much love.

James.
